HL2DM University Map Contest II Finalists

The first round of judging is officially over. We now begin phase two of the judging process.

First I want to thank ALL the mappers who submitted their maps. My personal thanks to everyone that participated, I would say that the contest was a huge success.

I know some people are going to be disappointed, because it is clear just how much effort and testing went into each of their maps. To those who felt they really made something good and still didn't make the cut, let me say this: it wasn't that your map wasn't good enough, it was more that the competition was really fierce. Picking the finalists with so many great maps was very difficult and it is unfortunate that there could be only three.

Here are our three finalists as voted by our panel of community judges (in alphabetical order by map name).

Finalists:

dm_airfusion by abnoksius
dm_helix by boshed
dm_pueblo by haymaker

Congratulations each of you. The judges panel will now be focusing exclusively on these three maps, in order to prepare for the final vote for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Finalists, I will be contacting you by email shortly with more information on the final phase.

Both maps were within only a point or two off making third place in total score. As I totaled the scores, either one of these maps could have easily snuck into the third spot, but didn't quite make it. Congrats guys, both maps are fantastic and we look forward to seeing them go public.

Congrats to the finalists. WT is correct, it was tough choosing among them. Lots of great work there.

Id like to add that just because your map didnt make it to the top 3, please dont abandon it. Many of the maps would make fine and fun maps to play and I would love to add a number of them to my server if they are/get finished.

Yes we already all wait the release of the 3 1st maps but it could be interesting to see the other maps with a DL link like gtamike_TSGK has started

WT you said one day that there was 22 maps. You have quoted 5 ones. Can we know just the names and authors of the 17 remaining ones ?

nice job on your maps guys. was a pleasure judging them. i cant speak for all the judges, but i would be more than happy to provide any of the mappers with my personal feed back on your map.

I don't want any of the mappers to feel pressured to release their map, or even make it known they entered the contest.

Hopefully all the mappers will choose to release their maps regardless.

Is there anyway for us other participants to get back criticisms/score sheets from the judges?

We will not be releasing score sheets, and it will be up to each judge if they are willing to provide feedback on a specific map. The main reason we are not providing feedback on all maps is because at this point we want to remain focused on the revision stage of the 3 finalist maps.

I highly recommend posting your map in the Dept of Architecture and getting community feedback.

That looks pretty awesome, reminds me more of L4D though with its creepy atmosphere.

I may or may not release my map, dunno yet. I'm kind of still unsatisfied with it, being laggy and all.

As is typical with me, I may just scrap the map altogether again.

I will probably release my map once I have fixed the leak and done everything to it that I wanted to before it was submitted.
Congrats to the 3 finalists.

EDIT: Just a thought, would it be possible to get the overall scores for our maps that didn't make it to the final so we know what to improve if we do choose to improve it and release it publically? I don't mean the entire scorecard I just mean the scores relevant to each mappers map.

Congrats to the finalists, and well done to all who entered, I like what I see from the maps so far, so looking forward to seeing the rest. Thanks to all the judges who made this worthwhile. One request is i would love to receive feedback from any judges who are willing?

Great! We can't wait check all maps on the server of my community. Fresh breeze! Thanks a lot to the hl2dm university for that great idea and all mappers who joined it.

Those, who were out, must think about, what a teammate of me mentioned: The winning map of the last contest 2008 you'll find on no server anymore. I even don't remember its name. The only map you will find a lot from that contest is the "dm_lostarena". And that map was out very early as well. ;-)
