wow I'm surprised, humbled and honored to end up in the finals. I have to say congrats to everyone and especially the judges and organizers of this competition, I am glad it was a success.

It's been great to see the creative side of this group. I'm sure there are a few more people
aware of the game itself now as well.

I can't believe I missed this thread until yesterday, I was wondering how all these releases were being posted, doh. I seriously got a head rush when I read it though :!:

The winner of the last contest was caverns. Over here caverns is very popular and is heavily played in scrims by the competitive community. My team runs organized matches in it regularly, as well as lost arena.

lostarena is more of a map for public servers here, but it is also used competitively by lower division clans. meaning its not popular among the "elite".

That's probably due to the fact that they only play maps that have been out for 3+ years

True, I think there are quite some good clans out there that play maps like lostarena or octagon on matches... I don't think those maps are out for 3+ years...

Prove me wrong. show me the "elite" clans map list along with the original(not revised) release dates of those maps :!:

bold and underlined for ya mate, my comment was about so these so called "elite" clans that BlackRaven speaks of...not just ordinarily "good" ones.

If you mean clans like RAW and Cartel are elite clans in your opinion then they play maps like lostarena too, you're right about the fact that the map is more of a public server map than a match map, even though the map gets played on elite clan matches, but not as much as the standard hl2dm maps...

lostarena is not used competitively in division 1 (=among the elite), its a fact, whether you like it or not. we dont play gathers on it either.

but your statement jelly fox, that div 1 clans only play maps that have been out for 3+ years is not true. take caverns for example, its a quite popular map with top clans.

LOL Lostarena as a pub map is laughable. Any more than about 6 people and it becomes a sprayfest and debacle of rediculous proportions and its not even fun to play at that point, just stupid beyond belief.

And as far as playing maps more than 3 years old, well how about this list:

lostvillage, lockdown, avalon (although I love it), swamplight, aim arena, zeta, all over 3 years old but OMG some of them we can't get rid of...the horror!

are we talking about what lostarena is suitable for or what it is generally used for? biohazard and lostarena are 2 maps that are too small for publics (be it deathmatch or team deathmatch) and all games played on them eventually end up as boring hand nade fests, yet people love both.

The contest isn't over yet Val. The finalists can't post their map if they still want to have a chance of winning.

Lost village layout is what 10 years old? It doesn't matter how old a map is, a great map is a great map. Just like movies I bet you would watch DIE HARD which is 21 yeas old this year

GO BOSHED.

Actually I think Lostvillage absolutely SUCKS ASS as a map.

I have already see DieHard at least 3 times, dont need to see it again.

OK back on topic....

There were alot of good maps in the contest and it was hard to pick the top 3 for me.

All of them should be released in some fashion or another.
