Those, who were out, must think about, what a teammate of me mentioned: The winning map of the last contest 2008 you'll find on no server anymore. I even don't remember its name. The only map you will find a lot from that contest is the "dm_lostarena". And that map was out very early as well. ;-)

The winner of the last contest was caverns. Over here caverns is very popular and is heavily played in scrims by the competitive community. My team runs organized matches in it regularly, as well as lost arena.

I'd say caverns is more popular as a competitive map in Europe too. lostarena is on the small side even for a 3on3, has fewer tactical possibilities and also sports two versions with the same name, meaning you sometimes have the version without rpg although it was supposed to be available.

I'll try to send you some feedback soon piggy!

Well done guys...

maybe it would be best to separate the non winners and move them to a thread of their own (admin)

Constructive criticism and what you liked will be good feedback.

One thread to rule them all!

All contestants can post here, it's on topic.

The finalists will get maximum exposure in their own thread once the contest is over and the map pack is released.

Well I want to add more to it, and i need to figure out how to use visleafs better as some areas, namely the middle of the map can get framerate dips.

I would use "func_occluder" if I were you.
Add them in the walls, behind the wall models will not be drawn for players,
useful as players can't see through walls anyway. I have used func_occluders in dm_lost_base cause there are lots of weapon models. In a old map version there was one part of the map where I got 30fps then I added func_occluders in the walls and I got 100fps. (when I did have a old ati 128MB g card)

Thats one way that can help you improve frame rate.

very nice map, you've made good use of the combine theme. It does look spartan from the images but imo feels completely natural when in game. :D
Also i didn't experience any fps issues (nvidia 8800 320), and love the effect the env_fog_controller is giving, feels so right wd..

Visually I would only consider displacing a little more in some areas just to add that extra detail
as for playability i think this will run great as a pub map and 4v4 tdm but i would try playing with teleports or maybe trigger push in certain places to speed up connectivity for when there are fewer players

great submission mate, im gonna run this in one of our tdm server if there's no objections :?:

i personally dont like caverns but ive played it in "gathers" in europe and i guess it plays ok and a lot of people like it. so in that sense, the first map contest was successfull.

lostarena is more of a map for public servers here, but it is also used competitively by lower division clans. meaning its not popular among the "elite".
